Art gallery party to benefit UMC trauma center

Art, fashion, music and chocolate — mmm, chocolate — come together for a good cause during Art of the Party II.

The event, set from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Martin Lawrence Galleries at the Forum Shops at Caesars, 3500 Las Vegas Blvd. South, will benefit UMC’s Trauma and Burn Care Center.

Produced by L.A. Fashion Week’s Mikey Koffman, the evening will feature fashion presentations, including pop-art inspired pieces created by stylist and costume designer Anthony Franco.

Max Brenner will sponsor The Art of Chocolate, while Sephora will present The Art of Beauty.

Drinks and entertainment will be provided.

In addition to showcasing art from Rembrandt and Andy Warhol, among many others, artists including Philippe Bertho, Robert Deyber, Francois Fressinier, Kerry Hallam, Douglas Hofmann, Liudmila Kondakova, Rene Lalonde and Felix Mas are scheduled to participate in the event.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at www.theartoftheparty2.eventbrite.com.

Free admission

There’s no such thing as a free lunch, but a free museum day is as close as the Nevada State Museum in Las Vegas on Saturday. As part of the state’s “Rediscover Your Nevada Museums” promotion, adult visitors receive free admission to the Nevada State Museum, 309 S. Valley View Blvd., adjacent to the Springs Preserve. (Visitors younger than 17 are always free.) Saturday’s programs include living history demonstrations and the chance to chat with curators working on artifacts and specimens. Museum hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays through Mondays. For more information, call 702-486-5205. Meanwhile, at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Boulder City, 600 Yucca St., half-price rides ($5 for adults, $2.50 for children 4 to 11) aboard the Nevada Southern Railway depart at 10 and 11:30 a.m., and 1 p.m. Saturday. (Call the museum at 702-486-5006 to check on a 2 p.m. excursion; it’s sometimes canceled because of excessive temperatures.)

Restaurant deals

It’s summertime, and while the livin’ isn’t exactly easy, if you’re a local and used to handling this weather, you can get some pretty good deals while the tourists shy away. Two of them:

Nobu at the Hard Rock Hotel is offering a locals’ tasting menu through Aug. 31, six courses (including the iconic Black Cod Miso) for $75.

And Trevi at the Forum Shops at Caesars is offering a 20 percent discount on food orders through Aug. 31.

Local ID is required for both, of course, and the Nobu deal also requires a Backstage Pass Rewards Club card.

Ghalib Ghallab

One thing about the name: You won’t be confusing it with any other Ghalib Ghallab. For years, the contemporary jazz keyboardist also has been the answer to the vexing question of, “Where can I hang out if I’m too old for electronica but too young to go to bed?” Ghallab and the Vegas Knights are playing from 8 to 11 p.m. Thursdays for the rest of the month at the M Resort’s Ravello Lounge.

Guilty by Association

Long-running Vegas hardcore lifers Guilty by Association will be celebrating the remastered double-CD release of their first two records, along with fellow local punks Surrounded by Thieves and The Quitters, at 9 p.m. Friday at Backstage Bar & Billiards, 601 Fremont St. Tickets are $5; call 702-382-2227.
