Hot dog! Readers find buns

The good news: We may have solved the mystery of the whereabouts of hot dog buns like Woolworth’s used to serve, which are being sought by Sandra Ashenmil. Mike O’Brien noted that they were the New England-style split-top buns so many readers are searching for, "grilled on both sides and then the hot dog was served in it." Noting that they’re not sold in local supermarkets, he recommended the "excellent" version at More Than Bread Sanborn Bakery, 5230 S. Valley View Blvd. Mary Fletcher e-mailed that the buns can be ordered from www.portuguesefood.com (or call 508-679-9830). And Dolores Acker wrote that Woolworth’s-style buns — which may or may not be the buns O’Brien and Fletcher remember — can be found at Sunflower Farmer’s Market, which is at 3365 E. Tropicana Ave. and 4020 S. Rainbow Blvd. …

For Richard Marmion, who’s looking for Vintage lemon-lime seltzer or any other seltzer, David Albert and Elizabeth Proctor recommended the lemon-lime variety of the Big K brand that’s available at Smith’s, adding that it has no added sugar. And Scott Kagan recommended the plain Safeway seltzer at Vons — which he noted "is so different than Safeway’s club soda, which I do not recommend."…

For Guy Roark, who is seeking reader suggestions for restaurants that serve good hot beef or hot turkey sandwiches with gravy, Barry Goold e-mailed to suggest Weiss Deli & Bakery, 2744 N. Green Valley Parkway in Henderson, adding, "they have three great open-faced sandwiches — brisket (my favorite), roast beef and turkey. Each comes with mashed potatoes and lots of good gravy."…

For Robert Bagne, who’s looking for frozen breaded veal cutlets, which he used to get at Sam’s Club, Sheila Greenbaum e-mailed that after a search she contacted Provimi Veal, which directed her to www.neesvigs.com (or call 608-846-1150), where they’re $18.95 plus shipping for 16 3-ounce cutlets; she added, "they are not sold locally."…

More on fresh-baked hamburger and hot dog buns: Jack R. Fleming recommended those at Smith’s at 2211 N. Rampart Blvd., and added, "they also have an in-house cinnamon-raisin bread that is really good and comes in at $1.99 vs. around four bucks for some of the name brands that are not very good."…

More on old-fashioned hard rolls: Paulette Juryn recommended those in the deli section at Food 4 Less at 1955 N. Nellis Blvd. …

Reader requests: Sharon Chandler is looking for a local source for Emeril’s Kicked-Up Tomato Pasta Sauce, adding, "it seems like all Emeril’s products have disappeared from local shelves."…

Carolyn Stephens is looking for Inland Valley Frozen Mashed Potatoes. …

Josephine Bitaut is looking for Noon Hour sour cream or wine pickled herring, and Lithuanian rye bread. …

Linda Hollis is looking for frozen spanakopita like Costco used to sell and Ranch Style black-eyed peas with bacon and without jalapenos. …

And Brad Dunaway is looking for reader suggestions for restaurants that serve breakfasts with good eggs, "real hash browns" — in chunks instead of shreds — and good orange juice and coffee. …

Vegas Golden Knights Christmas Display
In the Las Vegas Valley, the chances of getting a white Christmas are slim. But this year, you can have a “Knight” Christmas. A Henderson resident has a Christmas lights display that is synchronized to the entrance music for the Golden Knights. GG Misa’s Knights light show is played every 30 minutes from 5 to 10 nightly. His light show consists of two songs: Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” and the entrance music, “Le Castle Vania,” from the movie “John Wick.” The display is located at 730 Bollons Island St. (Richard Brian/Las Vegas Reivew-Journal)
