Readers find source for Wyler’s drink mix

We’ve had a relatively mild June so far — if a little uncharacteristically gloomy — but we don’t need summer’s official beginning last weekend to remind us that plenty of sizzling days are yet to come, and with them the need for refreshment. So it’s fitting that readers have a local source for an old favorite — Wyler’s Sugar-Free Lemonade Drink Mix, being sought by Julie and Don McCuiston.

Angie Hulsey e-mailed that she recently found it at the Dollar Tree at 580 N. Stephanie St. in Henderson and in the past at various Walgreens stores. And Janet McFarland suggested Albertsons or Smith’s in the northwest part of the valley, adding that she found it in large tubs with several individual 2-quart packets inside. …

For Keith Bell, Steve Michaelson e-mailed that fig preserves can be found at the 99 Cents Only store at 7470 W. Lake Mead Blvd. Dean B. Pomerantz said he’s seen Croatian fig preserves from the Dalmatian coast in the specialty cheese case at Vons at 1601 W. Craig Road in North Las Vegas. And Guy Roark said a large variety of fig preserves is available at the International Marketplace, 5000 S. Decatur Blvd., and that he particularly recommends Cortas, imported from Lebanon (and Cortas’ apricot and cherry preserves as well). …

For Marilyn Samperisi, who’s looking for frozen gnocchi, Jennie Ondra, Diane Laudadio and Mamie Glorioso suggested Trader Joe’s (with Ondra noting that it comes in arrabiata or Gorgonzola sauce) and Jeanne LaDuca of LaDuca’s N.Y. Italian Deli, 72 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway in Henderson, faxed that she carries Pastosa frozen gnocchi (as well as cavatelli and ravioli). …

For Jerry Speck, who’s looking for Limburger cheese in a brick, Jan Visser suggested Whole Foods Market at 100 S. Green Valley Parkway in Henderson. And Claudia Schiffke wrote that she orders hers from Alp and Dell Cheese Store and Deli, 657 Second St., Monroe, Wis. 53566, (or online at www.rothkase.com, or call 608-328-3355). …

For readers looking for stone-ground white cornmeal, John Polhemus, president of Taste Specialty Foods, 3945 W. Reno Ave., said he carries it in 10-pound packages.

And Carolyn Stephens sent a tip for readers looking for foods no longer being carried by major retailers: Check 99 Cents Only or Big Lots stores, and "if you find what you’re looking for there, stock up, because chances are you will never see it again."…

Reader requests: Glorioso is looking for frozen sugar-free Italian ice cups. …

Penelope Callender is looking for Progresso Black Bean Soup, Campbell’s Black Bean Soup and Campbell’s Cream of Shrimp Soup. …

David Nast is looking for a local source for 6 in 1 brand canned tomatoes. …

Rhonda Evans is looking for raw pine nuts in the shell (when they’re in season). …

And Deanna Smith is looking for Mrs. Minnick’s Sauerbraten Mix in a bottle, Manning’s white or yellow soft hominy, Maryland blue crabs and smoked pork butts. …
