Seeking Spanish red peanuts and readers reply

Spanish red peanuts evoke a nice memory for me. My dad was a big fan of them — especially when they were hot, which is how we used to get them at a counter in a department store near my childhood home. Maybe that’s why we went to that store more than any other.

I don’t know if Spanish red peanuts bring back such memories for Tom Fitzgerald, but he’s looking for them, and his fellow readers have come through.

Patricia Sorensen reported finding Planters Spanish Redskin Peanuts with Sea Salt at Wal-Mart Supercenter at 6005 S. Eastern Ave. and Vons at 1131 E. Tropicana Ave. (She added, “Since I have known Tom for many years, I picked him up a couple of cans,” supporting the assertion that, in may ways, Las Vegas still is a small town.)

And Valerie Weinberg said she buys “huge tins” of the Planters brand from, pointing out that with a $25 purchase, shipping is free. …

Before I ran Mandel Martin’s request for Squirrel Nut Zippers candies I made sure there was such a thing and Martin wasn’t pulling my leg.

For Jim Dobson, who’s looking for frozen green chile rellenos, Richard L. Jones said he gets them from Carlito’s Burritos at 3345 E. Patrick Lane.

He adds, “They make them fresh, freeze them and you pick them up. They are among the best I’ve ever had, made with authentic New Mexican ingredients. You just call ahead and pick them up, usually the next day.”…
