Time to hunt scrapple

I know that a lot of my readers who hail from points east are scrapple fans, so this seems like a good way to start the new year.

In response to queries from Peggy Waller and Judy Hampson, several readers said scrapple still is available at some Smith's stores. Beth More, Rahnny McGinnis and Evonne Lane e-mailed that 1-pound blocks of Jones Dairy Farms scrapple can be found among the frozen breakfast foods at the store at 450 N. Nellis Blvd.; Stephen Salchenberger said it can be found at the store at 2255 E. Centennial Parkway in North Las Vegas; and Janine Williams said it can be found at the store at 2211 N. Rampart Blvd.

And Ron Lutz, owner of The Butcher Block, 7625 S. Rainbow Blvd., said he carries scrapple. ...

For Duane Irons, who's looking for caffeine-free Dr. Pepper, June Newmark and Lee Beatty e-mailed that it can be found at Danielle's Chocolates and Ice Cream, 6394 W. Sahara Ave. ...

For the Cookies Bar B Q sauce Irons also is seeking, Susan Hodge and Jane Sinksen e-mailed that it's not available locally, but he can order from www.cookiesbbq.com or call (800) 331-4995. ...

For Mike Maholick, who's looking for Campbell's Manhattan Clam Chowder, Lorraine Nittoly e-mailed that it can be found at Vons at 475 E. Windmill Lane; J. Williams suggested ordering it from www.amazon.com; and Sharron Hibler wrote that she found an excellent substitute in Progresso's Manhattan Clam Chowder, which she gets at Albertsons at 10140 W. Flamingo Road. ...

For Micki Collins, Aaron Mantz e-mailed that Zesta Saltine Crackers are available at Smith's at 6130 W. Tropicana Ave. ...

For Joan Randle, who's looking for Western Hazelnut Bread by Oregon Bread, Salchenberger said it's not distributed in this area or available by mail, but that Vons carries a similar bread with seeds and nuts under its own brand and it's "an almost satisfactory substitute." ...

And for Kelly Altenbern, who's looking for Coco Wheats cereal, Shirley Loring wrote that it can be found at the Wal-Mart Supercenter at 1807 W. Craig Road, and Sam Popowcer e-mailed that it can be ordered from the manufacturer, Little Crow Foods, at www.littlecrowfoods.com (or call 800-288-2769). ...
