The weekend celebrations for Caesars Palace’s 50th anniversary are all set to be a glittering 48-hour star spectacular. In addition to Friday night’s 10-minute fireworks display, award-winning chef and reality-TV star Gordon Ramsay will host the festivities.
The fireworks are set to explode above the Strip at 10:20 p.m., so expect traffic-jam mayhem on Las Vegas Boulevard. Gordon promises a celebratory champagne toast with a birthday cake-cutting ceremony at the picturesque Garden of the Gods pool oasis. He also will announce the winner of Caesars’ nationwide cocktail competition.
Saturday evening’s event becomes an all-star gala with headline entertainer Tony Bennett and Howie Mandel as host to welcome performers Wayne Newton, Donny & Marie Osmond, Matt Goss and The Righteous Brothers.
Caesars also promises other entertainment surprises, so you may well see Colosseum headliner Rod Stewart join in the festivities. Members of the family of Jay Sarno, who created the original Caesars, will be joined by Evel Knievel’s family and Keep Memory Alive founder Larry Ruvo with Gary Selesner, Caesars Palace president.
I’m flying in from La Jolla, so we will have a full report and photos Monday. Follow us via Twitter @robin_leach for live coverage.
