Dining Pick of the Week: Restaurante Guadalajara

Restaurante Guadalajara

1725 N. Nellis Blvd., 702-868-7770

The windows at Restaurante Guadalajara are decorated with brightly colored cartoon food, but the traditional Mexican fare to be found on the menu is the real story here. Appetizers include quesadillas and taquitos ($7.99) with all the fixings and Nachos Supreme ($9.99) with beef or chicken. The kids’ meals include a small soft drink and a variety of options, including enchiladas, chicken nuggets and mini quesadillas (all $4.95, except the hamburger and fries, which is $7.99). House specials include tortas ahogadas, bread soaked in homemade tomato sauce and stuffed with roast pork loin chunks. The sauce was a perfect blend of tomato and spice, and the pork tasted as if it fell off the bone. Seafood is a house special as well, including camarones (shrimp), house salads with fish ($12.50 to $14.95), caldos (soups) and pescado ($8.50 to $16.95). Desserts feature fried ice cream ($4.99). The dining area is spacious and well-lit. Booths line the walls, and there are several tables and two flat-screen TVs that showed soccer games. The restaurant offers 20 percent off for military and law enforcement personnel. Lunch specials are $6.99 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Restaurante Guadalajara is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
