Dining Pick of the Week: Little Tony’s

Tony Gemignani began his cooking career in 1991, working in his brother’s pizza parlor. These days, he counts among his accomplishments being president of World Pizza Champions and the world’s top pizza thrower, as well as holding the Triple Crown title for baking at the International Pizza Championship in Italy.

Leone Cafe reopens after brief closure by Health District

The Tivoli Village hot spot was closed by the Southern Nevada Health District on Monday because of a lack of hot water and a number of other violations. The restaurant, at 400 S. Rampart Blvd., was re-inspected Thursday morning and has reopened.

Wine of the Week: The White Ribbon Shiraz

This is a young and muscular sort of wine that demands to be opened at least one hour before drinking. It is a great value and a match made in heaven for a big juicy medium-rare hamburger.

Sometimes you just have to make it yourself

Pork pie may be a little too New England for local restaurants to offer, but we did find a recipe for those who want to make it at home.

Michelin-starred chef Julian Serrano opens his third Las Vegas restaurant, Lago, overlooking the Fountains of Bellagio. The menu and decor are flavored with colorful Italian accents.

Sausage sales are up thanks to variety, custom blends

Sausage sales are up, and not just because they’re an inexpensive way to feed the family. Local butchers say custom sausages are always a fantastic way for cooks to bring variety to their table.

What every mom wants: Bacon roses

Thinking of giving Mom roses on her big day Sunday? A rose by any other name would smell as sweet, but not as sweet as bacon.

Cafe Cortez gets retro (mostly) right

Despite what you may have heard, locals do go to the Strip, and they do go downtown. I know because they email me all the time to tell me about their dining experiences in both places, good and bad (though mostly good). And one of the places I hear about most often is Cafe Cortez at the El Cortez.

Lola’s has reason to celebrate with Summerlin expansion

Over the years, I’ve watched as a lot of local restaurants have met with some success and opened a second, third or even fourth location — and, in a whole lot of cases, ended up scaling back or disappearing altogether. I wondered what would be the case with Lola’s, a downtown spot that specializes in New Orleans cuisine and has more than five years under its sequined belt. And, after visiting the new(ish) Summerlin location, I have high hopes.

View Dining Pick of the Week: Angel’s Fried Rice

Don’t let the tiny size of Angel’s Fried Rice turn you away. The dining room may feature only two cocktail tables, but its menu makes up for the lack of space.

View Dining Pick of the Week: PublicUs

The downtown dining resurgence spreads ever farther east with the opening of PublicUs. The self-described canteen-style neighborhood restaurant and coffeebar recently opened in the Fremont East District within walking distance of The Writer’s Block book store and Bunkhouse Saloon.

View Dining Pick of the Week: Muscle Maker Grill

Summer is just around the corner, and now is the time to start counting those calories. For more than 20 years, Muscle Maker Grill has helped health-conscious diners by creating a menu fit for vegetarians, people following a carb-free diet or those looking for gluten-free options.
