Helmet giveaway promotes safety

You got your son or daughter a bicycle for Christmas, but did you remember to buy a helmet?

ThinkFirst Nevada and local BMX pro Ricardo Laguna u25B6 are teaming up for the ninth annual After Christmas Helmet Giveaway.

The organization will provide free helmets for children from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Land Rover Las Vegas, 5255 W. Sahara Ave.

Children must be in attendance to be fitted for the helmets, which will be distributed while supplies last.

Laguna, a veteran of the X Games, Gravity Games and Dew Action Sports Tour as well as the MTV Tr3s reality series “The Ricardo Laguna Project,” will perform a BMX demonstration with friends. While the event is designed to entertain, including performances by breakdancers, its goal is to educate young people about the importance of safety.
