Locals Only: A night out under the Death Star

Wrap your hair in those crazy side buns. Unpack your papier-mache Tauntaun carcass. Freeze yourself in carbonite.

Whatever it takes to let your “Star Wars” geek flag fly.

In celebration of Star Wars Day, the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay, 3950 Las Vegas Blvd. South, is hosting its second annual “May the 4th Be With You” party.

Starting at 6 p.m. Sunday, the event will feature costume contests and prizes along with specialty food and drinks, including Millennium Falcon Nachos, Dagobah Swampfish, Yodaritas and the Han Shot First shot.

It wouldn’t be May the 4th, though, without the main attraction. “Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope” will be shown on the House of Blues televisions and projector screen.

Costumes are encouraged, but masks and facepaint are not allowed on the casino floor.

Partygoers must be at least 21, and they must RSVP at maythe4thbewithyou2014.eventbrite.com.

High notes

Soprano Renee Fleming, possessor of one of the world’s great voices, makes her at-long-last Las Vegas concert debut at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, sharing some “Guilty Pleasures” — from Rachmaninoff to Rodgers and Hammerstein — with locals at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, 361 Symphony Park Ave. For tickets ($39-$129) call 702-749-2000 or visit www.thesmithcenter.com.

Sweet sampler

Andrea’s at Encore, 3131 Las Vegas Blvd. South, has introduced “Cheers &Chopsticks,” which begins today. Customers with local ID can get signature cocktails and small plates, starting at $7, from 6 p.m. to closing on Thursdays. On the menu are such dishes as Scottish salmon tartare, miso black cod bites, sauteed Gulf shrimp and Wagyu beef sliders.

Hello, old friends

Perhaps someday the tourist corridor will offer a viable venue to The Phat Pack, the trio of great singers from The Venetian’s “Phantom” production who cooked up an autobiographical showcase of show tunes. Until that day, their local friends will be happy to see them again at 2 p.m. Sunday, when the Performing Arts Society of Nevada hosts them at the Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 McLeod Drive. Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door; call 702-658-6741.

Monstrous mash

With “Godzilla” opening in theaters later this month, prepare yourself by first catching progressive French metallers Gojira, whose sound is every bit as savage and monstrous as the supersized reptile in question. See them at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at House of Blues at Mandalay Bay, 3950 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Tickets are $31.50; call 702-632-7600.
