Locals Only: UFC Fight Week brings joy to fans

The first rule of Fight Week: It’s OK to talk about Fight Week.

The UFC is offering fans a series of parties, autograph sessions and meet-and-greets leading up to Saturday’s UFC 162 at the MGM Grand Garden.

The UFC takes over the Fremont Street Experience on Thursday with autograph signings from 6 to 8 p.m. Cain Velasquez, Urijah Faber and Arianny Celeste will be at the Golden Nugget; Carlos Condit, Clay Guida and Rachelle Leah will be at The D; Joseph Benavidez, Gilbert Melendez and Kenda Perez will be at the Golden Gate; and Benson Henderson, Dominick Cruz, Chrissy Blair and Vanessa Hanson will be at El Cortez.

The day will end with a free Three Days Grace concert at 9 p.m. at the Third Street Stage.

Fight Week continues with the UFC Fan Expo. The event, featuring autograph and Q&A sessions with more than 50 UFC stars, as well as more than 150 exhibitors, will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Mandalay Bay. Admission is $40 in advance or $45 the day of event; a two-day package is $60 in advance or $65 onsite.

And doors open at 2:30 p.m. Saturday for UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman, with the first bout set for 4 p.m. and the main card at 7 p.m. Tickets are $138.45-$1,243.95.

‘2 Gals and a Show’

They sing, they dance, they’re “2 Gals and a Show.” The stars of the show? Laura Manning writes and sings original comic lyrics and music. Dancer Leigh Christiansen also has her comic moments, especially when she’s showing off her dead-on Phyllis Diller impersonation. Together, the two romp through jokes and musical numbers at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive. The show is free but tickets are required; pick them up at the center’s main desk. For more information, call 702-455-7340.

Swingin’ Pedestrians

Already too hot out there, you say? Wait until you see those Las Vegas Red Hots do their retro burlesque to the sounds of the Swingin’ Pedestrians. They stoke up the Third Street Stage of the Fremont Street Experience from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, just a jitterbug away from the official First Friday festivities.

Byleth

Why you should go see Byleth? Because these death metallers hail from Nebraska, so of course they’re going to be plenty angry.

Details: 9 p.m. Sunday; LVCS, 425 Fremont St.; $5 in advance, $7 day of show (702-382-3531).
