“Your future has arrived.”
That’s the message that greets visitors upon logging on to the website of industrial metallers Powerman 5000.
In fact, at one point in time, the band did have a futurist bent, namely in their sci-fi stage gear and their use of dance floor-friendly beats to bolster a hard rock crunch on their breakout single, “When Worlds Collide.”
That was 1999.
Nowadays, Powerman 5000 isn’t evocative of things to come as much as they are of a not-so-distant past, back when metal bands weren’t afraid of being a little goofy in the name of a good time.
