Tanya Tucker performing at Boulder Station

The '70s outlaw country movement was devoid of many things: a deference to the Nashville mores of the day, an acceptance of the traditional bounds of the genre and, chief among them, women.

Tanya Tucker changed that.

Though she initially came to fame as a squeaky clean teen singer, the antecedent to LeAnn Rimes and Taylor Swift, she later would sharpen her sound with a rock edge and radiate a lady-in-charge sense of self and purpose.

When this evolution began to take place some three decades ago, times were hard for an independent-minded female singer, but Tucker was harder.
