Saturday is the first live show for Wilson Phillips since — we’ll keep it vague for you future RedBoxers — their important cameo in "Bridesmaids."
Chynna Phillips says that maybe the trio should have been more proactive about lining up more dates in the wake of the hit comedy, but comedies can go either way. "I can’t believe all the emails and text messages, people calling me. Everyone says it’s hysterical. I’m stunned. It doesn’t always work out that way."
But as of last week, Phillips still hadn’t seen the movie yet. "I missed the flashy Hollywood premiere for coaching my child through a difficult night of vomiting," she says. Motherhood is her first priority these days, with Phillips and husband Billy Baldwin raising children ages 6, 9 and 11.
"We usually just book out one weekend a month to go on tour. We try to do two shows a month back to back. That makes it easier," Phillips says of her work with sisters Carnie and Wendy Wilson.
Next week the three begin tracking a new album, which will cover the hits of their famous parents in the Beach Boys (the Wilsons are the daughters of Brian) and The Mamas & The Papas (Chynna is the daughter of John and Michelle Phillips).
"We’ll never be able to improve on the songs. It’s just about our own take on them, and being able to make them our own," she says.
The trio sings at 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the Club at the Cannery, 2121 E. Craig Road. Tickets are $24.95-$52.45; call 617-5550.
