Otherwise singer says band offers something for everyone

For years now, hook-heavy hard rockers Otherwise have been among Las Vegas' most popular bands. Lead singer Adrian Patrick parts the curtain on this group on the rise.

What does Otherwise sound like?

"Otherwise sounds like five regular dudes being as genuine as humanly possible. There is absolutely nothing contrived about our art. We write and play the same kinds of songs we listen to, which is almost everything. Since we don't enjoy only one style of music, we refuse to play only one style of music. Therefore, we can honestly say that we are an extremely versatile rock 'n' roll outfit with something for everyone."

You guys opened for Korn recently, on a tour sponsored by Jagermeister. How did that go?

"We've actually recently been sponsored by Jagermeister, and although I liken it to Superman getting a kryptonite endorsement, it presented us with a huge opportunity in opening for Korn. We've been dreaming of being onstage at The Pearl, so to play that room to a nearly sold-out and immensely receptive crowd was another empowering achievement for us."

You've been one of Vegas' top-drawing unsigned bands for a while now, have you gotten close to signing a record deal?

" 'Close' is a very ambiguous term, especially in regards to an industry as murky as the music business. We've played for and partied with several major shot-callers, but have thus far been disappointed by the overall lack of vision that seems to be plaguing the industry. We're still waiting to meet a true patron of the arts, someone to be a Cesare Borgia to our da Vinci."

Do you think Vegas is a tough city to break out of, as a band?

"Honestly, Vegas has been a very tough city to break out of, at least for us. Other bands in town have seemingly hit the proverbial jackpot, getting deals and going on tour before building the same kind of strong local support that we've maintained for the past few years. But that only fuels the fire for us even more, to win this tremendous struggle not just for ourselves, but for all of our friends and fans who continually support us in our dream. We must win for the Family Wise, failure is not an option."

This summer, you're on the Mayhem Fest for a few dates. You'll be playing in the sun, early in the day. How are you planning on beating the heat?

"Indeed, we've been invited out to Mayhem Fest by our good friends, In This Moment. ... It's truly going to be a once-in-a-lifetime kind of experience! Since we were born and raised here in the desert, the heat shouldn't be too hard to handle ... especially when you're way too cool, like us."
