Other singers populate stage and audience with Grant Griffin

Grant Griffin says surrounding himself with beautiful co-stars is a bit of a throwback to Dean Martin and the Golddiggers, except the Golddiggers didn’t “walk around with four-octave ranges.”

Past editions of Griffin’s show have in fact been called “The Voices,” but he says variations of that title have become so popular it’s a bit confusing. So this time, Thursday’s show at the South Point will be known as “Grant Griffin and the Las Vegas Divas.”

Griffin will claim about eight songs for his own operatic baritone, but he will share the mic with 10 or more other performers, including a few “surprises” from audience plants. The divas are local pros of various ages and musical styles, including Jeneane Marie, Elisa Furr and Gabriella Versace.

Griffin turned 80 in September and says he has produced 22 shows for himself and his stable of singers since moving to Las Vegas in 1995. It’s the home he never had in his first career, although he did work as a singing emcee at the Sahara in 1956.

He was born in New York, and his father followed construction work so “I left at the age of 2 and never stopped moving.”
