Six Picks: Our experts pick their favorites for the week

Childish Gambino

When would ComicCon nerds (a categoric umbrella that would cover this Six Picker) show up at a hip-hop concert? When the rapper is Childish Gambino, the Mr. Hyde-ish alter ego of Donald Glover, from the uber-nerd sitcom "Community." Opening act Nipsey Hussle has to be good too, just because of the name. Showtime is 9 p.m. Sunday on the Boulevard Pool stage at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, 3708 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Tickets are $33; call 698-7000.

A Silent Film

A Silent Film's breathy Brit pop is as cinematic as the band's name suggests, heavy on melodrama and atmosphere, with climactic guitars and stirring vocals well suited for soundtracking scenes of triumph and resolution. See the band at 10 p.m. today at the Lounge at the Palms, 4321 W. Flamingo Road. Tickets are $15; call 944-3200.

'The Avengers'

Yes, you've probably already seen "The Avengers." Judging by the box-office records it's destroyed like so many Manhattan skyscrapers, everybody outside Micronesia has probably already seen "The Avengers." But given the disappointments so far this season, there might not be a better feeling available at the multiplex than hearing those two magic words: Hulk, smash.

Gnomes up close

When in Gnome ... well, you know the rest. And for locals, Gnome is as close as downtown's Boulder Plaza Sculpture Garden, where giant garden gnomes by local artist Jesse Carson Smigel - one standing, one reclining - are ready for whimsical photo opportunities. (Check out photos at the Las Vegas Arts Commission's online "Our Las Vegas" project at http://ourlasvegas.wordpress.com/.) For in-person encounters, you can chill with your gnomies from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily in the Arts District, between Main and First streets at Boulder Avenue.

Food trucks

A food-truck festival will be part of "Tuff-N-Uff: The Future Stars of MMA" today at the South Point, 9777 Las Vegas Blvd. South. While admission to the MMA event is $25 per person, entrance to the food-truck area is free and open to the public from 4 p.m. until the conclusion of the fight. Chi-Town Hustler, Fat Daddy's Ice Cream, Pop's on the Go, Sin City Wingers, Slap Yo Mama and Slidin' Thru are expected to participate.

Deadmau5

If there are supermodels, then there are superproducers. Thus: Deadmau5. He DJs Sunday at Wynn's XS nightclub; then at Encore Beach Club during Monday's afternoon hours. It's the year's biggest DJ weekend on the Strip. Check the club section for an interview with Kaskade (his 18-and-up show is Saturday at Cosmopolitan) and a club guide topped by Skrillex.
