'Hokes' exhibit on display at Reed Whipple

"Hokes Medical Arts," a traveling exhibition by artist Beauvais Lyons, is on display at the Reed Whipple Cultural Center, 821 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

Lyons, a University of Tennessee art professor, previously has fabricated cultures such as the Apasht and the Aazud and created the imaginary "George and Helen Spelvin Folk Art Collection" of contemporary folk art.

For this project, Lyons has created a collection of anatomical prints and drawings from the Hokes (pronounced "hoax") Archives. The series of prints and drawings appears to include authentic depictions of abnormal human anatomy, but are really fictional works that comment on science and the representation of the body.

The center is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m Saturdays.
