More than 1,000 students are now going to school every day in Southern Nevada with a new backpack stocked with school supplies, thanks to donations from local Realtors.
Members of the Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors gave generously to a statewide backpack drive organized by the Nevada Association of Realtors and its LeadershipNVAR Class of 2016 to benefit students served by Boys &Girls Clubs throughout Nevada.
From Aug. 22-25, groups of GLVAR members visited seven Boys &Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada locations, from North Las Vegas to Henderson, to deliver more than 1,000 fully stocked backpacks to children who need them.
Realtors donated and collected backpacks stocked with pencils, folders, three-ring binders, highlighters, rulers, tape, USB flash drives and other school supplies, collecting them at designated locations around the state.
Nevada Realtors collected more than 1,200 backpacks statewide, including more than 1,000 in Southern Nevada.
LeadershipNVAR, NVAR’s signature program for personal and professional growth, organized the back-to-school drive as part of its annual class project.
Participating local associations included the GLVAR, Reno/Sparks Association of Realtors, Elko County Association of Realtors, Sierra Nevada Association of Realtors and the Incline Village Board of Realtors.
One of the primary organizers of the backpack drive in Southern Nevada was GLVAR member Sheri Holthaus, of Keller Williams Realty Southwest, who said it was “such a rewarding experience, putting the backpacks in the hands of the kids.”
GLVAR President Scott Beaudry, a longtime local Realtor, added that Boys &Girls Clubs across the country are a home away from home for nearly 4 million children each year, including thousands of boys and girls here in Southern Nevada.
“Many of these kids can’t afford to buy new backpacks along with all the school supplies and other things they need to go back to school,” Beaudry said. “Our members did a great job doing their part to help these kids. This is another example of how local Realtors really care about our community.”
NVAR President Dave Tina, also a longtime local Realtor and past president of GLVAR, called the back-to-school drive a great success and a worthwhile way for local Realtors to support children served by the Boys &Girls Clubs, “which the National Association of Realtors has adopted on a national level.”
The Boys &Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada serve more than 21,000 boys and girls in 15 locations and two summer programs scattered throughout Southern Nevada. For more information, visit bgcsnv.org.
