HIKES

Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, watch the documentary "Walking with Dinosaurs," then go for a moderate-to-strenuous, three-mile hike to the Kayenta Formation in Pine Creek to look for Lower Jurassic fossils; for ages 10 and older. On April 8, look for wildflowers on an easy-to-moderate, three-mile hike in the Lost Creek-Willow Spring area.

Desert National Wildlife Refuge: On Saturday, observe wildlife on an easy, half-mile walk to Corn Creek Spring. Good for all ages.

Valley of Fire: At 7 p.m. Friday, join a park ranger to look for scorpions, petroglyphs and tanks while exploring the Atlatl Rock picnic area on a full-moon walk. Participants should gather at site 31 in the Atlatl campground.

Around the Bend Friends: This group of people 50 and older who are involved in hiking and related social activities plans several hikes each week of various difficulty levels, including an easy-to-moderate social hike on Saturdays. OTHER PROGRAMS

Red Rock Canyon: On Tuesday, view types of arachnids, reptiles, birds and mammals found at Red Rock from 11 a.m. to noon at the visitors center. On Wednesday, learn to make a beaded necklace, bracelet or earrings in a jewelry-making workshop for ages 12 and older. All materials will be provided, but you might wish to bring your own beads and tools. On Saturday, meet Mascot Max, a representation of Mojave Max, and learn about the state reptile, the desert tortoise.

Valley of Fire: At 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Saturday, enjoy a slide program on Valley of Fire’s vegetation at the visitor center. At 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, kids can create their own petroglyphs and participate in other activities at site 31 in the Atlatl campground. From 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday, the Easter Bunny will hop around the park to hand out treats. Locations will include Atlatl Rock campground, Arch Rock campground, Group Use area, Atlatl picnic area, Seven Sisters area, historic Conservation Corps cabins area and the visitor center.
