LUCK OF THE DRAW
Deadline looms Monday for
big game tag applications
Hunters hoping to draw one of Nevada's coveted big game tags for the 2011 hunting seasons have little time to waste. Applications can be submitted online at www.huntnevada.com. The application deadline is 5 p.m. Monday.
Tag applications and the 2011 Nevada Big Game Seasons and Application Regulations booklet can be found online at www.ndow.org or picked up at most Nevada Department of Wildlife offices and more than 160 license agents statewide.
For helpful information, sportsmen who are preparing their tag applications can visit the Top 10 Big Game Tag Application Resources page on the NDOW website (www.ndow.org/hunt/resources/top_10.shtm), where they will find the latest big game information such as season tables, maps, hunter information sheets, draw odds and harvest statistics.
As with past years, the big game drawing is anticipated to take place during the last week of May or the first week of June. Initial draw results will be posted within 48 hours of the drawing's completion. These results, however, are only preliminary and pending full receipt of license and tag fee funds. Once the successful applicant list is posted on the Internet, those hunters selected should ensure they have room enough on their credit card balance to accommodate the purchase.
Final results of the main tag draw for 2011 will be posted publicly no later than June 13. If the tag quota is undersubscribed, a second tag drawing will take place.
CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION
Archery Education Program on lookout for volunteers
The Nevada Department of Wildlife is on the hunt, so to speak, for energetic and enthusiastic volunteers who would like to be part of the agency's Archery Education Program.
Though volunteers are primarily needed for classroom instruction, opportunities also are available for those who would like to help with equipment maintenance and repair.
There also may be a chance to assist with the Nevada National Archery in the Schools Program.
The Archery Education Program offers public workshops designed to introduce people to the sports of archery and bowhunting. As the program continues to unfold, workshops will be offered at both introductory and intermediate levels. In addition to workshops centered on traditional archery activities, class offerings will include bowfishing and an introduction to crossbows.
For more information on volunteering, contact Chris Cheff at 486-5127 ext. 3504.
