Registration is open for the Winchester Cultural Center Theatre Boot Camp for children ages 6 to 16.
The camp will run from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday from July 2 through Aug. 17 at the center, 3150 S. McLeod Drive.
Cost is $550 for the entire camp or $350 for four weeks in July and $250 for three weeks in August, which also includes field trips; the Young People’s Summer Concert Series; big-screen movies; and classes in dance, drama, voice, set design, theater makeup and costuming.
Weekly Wednesday field trips whisk children away to local destinations such as Mount Charleston, Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, swimming spots and entertainment events such as Amazing Clowns and Mad Science.
Specialists lead the variety of classes.
Children will be exposed to ballet, jazz, tap and hip-hop classes as well as voice, basic piano, improvisation, comedy techniques, and theater stage presence.
Participants work toward a singing, dancing and acting theatrical performance on Aug. 17.
Susan Swanson, camp director, has appeared on Broadway, in touring productions and on television, and has worked with Tommy Tune, Ben Vereen, Debbie Allen and Gregory Hines.
She also has taught in Las Vegas and New York, as well as choreographed and directed productions in Indiana and Florida.
The Youth Summer Concert Series also is included in the weekly price. Shows from Cirque du Soleil, Dragon Arts Production’s “Images of China” puppetry, The World Famous Popovich Comedy Pet Theater, and the Hand to Mouth Storytellers performing “Family Yarns” are scheduled.
Other activities include water play days, board games, competitions and cooperative games.
The summer will end with a variety show where campers showcase what they learned at camp, and a party to celebrate the end of summer.
Admission to field trips, concerts and classes are included with the monthly rates. Parents provide lunch, snacks and beverages.
