Here are a few things in news, entertainment and pop culture that caught our eye recently.

■ Hasbro says it will have a gender-neutral, nonpink Easy-Bake Oven u25B6 on toy store shelves sometime next year. Or, as it's sure to become known among little boys, the "Easy-Bake Plastic Soldier Sauna."

■ The Mayan calendar apocalypse fizzles. Good news: We survive! Bad news: So does "Sin City Rules."

■ Pope Benedict XVI sends out his long-awaited first Twitter tweet. Although it did seem a bit harsh for him to call Taylor Swift's new album "derivative."

■ Paris will host the 2013 World Series of Poker Europe. Can't wait to see someone show their first "quinte flush royale."

Air travelers should expect worsening cancellations and delays this week even if the government shutdown ends, as the Federal Aviation Administration rolls out deeper cuts, officials said.
