Water Cooler

Here are a few things in news, entertainment and pop culture that we’ve been talking about lately.

• Tony Curtis’ memorial service features movie clips of the beloved Southern Nevada resident’s legendary performances. As long as Steven Seagal fans don’t start getting any crazy ideas …

• A Philippines airline has its flight attendants perform preflight safety demos to a Lady Gaga tune. Among artists the airline might want to avoid: Lynyrd Skynyrd, Buddy Holly, Rick Nelson and Whitesnake. (Whitesnake didn’t die in a plane crash, but why make flying more annoying than it already is?)

• The comic strip "Cathy" wraps up a 34-year run with the title character pregnant. To coin a Cathyish exclamation: "Ackewww!"
