Climber airlifted to Las Vegas hospital after falling near mine

A climber was airlifted to the hospital Saturday morning after falling near the Blue Diamond Hill Gypsum mine.

Medical personnel were called just after 6:50 a.m. to the area of Arroyo and Blue Diamond roads. The man was transported with head injuries by Mercy Air to the University Medical Center’s trauma unit, Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Brian Cole said.

The fall happened approximately 500 feet into the hills, just northeast of the intersection, Cole said.

The climber’s current condition wasn’t immediately available.
