A former Clark County School District employee who had worked as an assistant principal was arrested Friday on suspicion of sexual misconduct with a student, police said.

Hearley Smith, 54, was booked into the Clark County Detention Center “on charges related to sexual misconduct with a student,” the Clark County School District Police Department said in a news release Friday.

Smith “last worked as an assistant principal at Canyon Springs High School,” the news release said, adding that Smith had been a school district employee since 2004. Canyon Springs is in North Las Vegas.

“The arrest stems from an investigation initiated at Canyon Springs High School on February 24, 2025,” the news release said.

The release said Smith “has separated from the District and will no longer be allowed on campus.”
