1 critically injured, 1 arrested in Friday night crash

One man was critically injured and another was arrested for DUI after a motorcycle crash Friday evening, according to Las Vegas police.

Metro motorcycle officers were diverting traffic after an officer involved shooting, on Maryland and a few hundred feet south of the park where the shooting occurred, when a man in the SUV slammed into the back of a Harley-Davidson. The motorcycle and the man driving it were thrown about 100 feet. The motorcycle hit a Metro motorcycle and just missed an officer.

A 1997 Harley Davidson Road King was northbound about 5:20 p.m. in the right lane of Maryland Parkway, approaching a Metro motorcycle officer who was re-directing traffic north of Ford Avenue, Metro wrote in a release early Saturday morning.

A 2004 Dodge Durango was northbound on Maryland in the middle lane when the driver of the Harley Davidson, 42-year-old Jory Boyd, entered the SUV's path.

The front of the Dodge hit the left rear side of the motorcycle, causing it to fall over. Boyd and the motorcycle slid north and came to rest on the curb, police wrote in the release.

The SUV continued north, hitting a Metro motorcycle that was parked in the middle travel lane with its emergency lights on. The Metro motorcycle, with no rider, also slid north and stopped on the curb.

Boyd suffered a "substantial leg fracture and severe internal injuries," Metro Sgt. Richard Strader said Friday night. He was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in critical condition.

No Metro officers were injured in the wreck.

Keith Richards, the 44-year-old man who was driving the Dodge Durango, was suspected of DUI and was arrested, the release said.

Richards was booked into the Clark County Detention Center and faces one charge of DUI above the legal limit and one charge of driving without a license, detention center logs show.
