1 dead after central valley crash; J Street closed at Doolittle

A man crashed into a light pole and died Tuesday afternoon, according to Las Vegas police, who said the accident shut down a central valley intersection for four hours.

Metro responded to a crash on J Street, just south of the intersection with Doolittle Avenue, at 1:25 p.m. A 2005 BMW 545i was traveling south on J Street, and crossed into the north travel lane before veering into the pole.

The driver, a 70-year-old man, died at the scene, according to police.

A pedestrian was injured by falling debris and taken to University Medical Center, police said.

J Street was closed from Doolittle to Owens Avenue from about 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
