1 dead after early morning accident on 95 south

A man is dead after a two-vehicle crash in the southeast valley early Saturday morning.

The Nevada Highway Patrol responded about 3 a.m. to the accident on southbound U.S. Highway 95 at Flamingo Road, according to trooper Loy Hixson.

A black Volkswagen hatchback was traveling south on U.S. 95 at a high speed when it struck the rear of a red Honda Civic, Hixson said, causing both cars to go out of control.

The Volkswagen swerved to the right and flipped several times. The 25-year-old driver was thrown from the car and was pronounced dead at the scene, Hixson said.

The 22-year-old driver of the Civic veered left and struck the center median. She was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center with minor injuries.

Southbound U.S. 95 was shut down until 7 a.m., when two left two lanes were reopened to traffic. All lanes were open at 8:30 a.m.

The man who died will be identified by the Clark County coroner’s office after his family has been notified.
