1 dead after multiple vehicle crash in west Las Vegas Valley

Updated September 17, 2024 - 10:11 am

A 20-year-old man is dead after a crash involving three vehicles Monday night in the western Las Vegas Valley.

The crash occurred at 11:55 p.m. in the intersection of North Rainbow and West Lake Mead boulevards, according to a Metropolitan Police Department release.

A Jeep Wrangler was northbound on Rainbow approaching Lake Mead when it struck a raised concrete median and crossed over into southbound travel lanes a short distance before returning onto the northbound travel lanes, police said. The Jeep then struck the east curb before entering the intersection, drifted left over the center median and into southbound travel lanes again before striking the west curb.

A Dodge Journey and Kia Optima were stopped at a red traffic light as they exited U.S. 95 north at Lake Mead. The crash occurred when Jeep hit the passenger side of the Dodge, pushing the Dodge into the passenger side of the Kia.

Roads were closed for several hours.

It is the 106th traffic-related death in Metro’s jurisdiction in 2024.
