1 dead after SUV crashes into parked truck in North Las Vegas
A driver is facing felony charges after a single-vehicle wreck killed the passenger in an SUV on Monday morning, North Las Vegas police said.
Omar Herrera, 28, of North Las Vegas, fled the scene, police said. Officers later found him at North Vista Hospital where he was being treated for minor injuries.
The 31-year-old man riding in the 2004 Ford Expedition died at the scene, police said. Alcohol and speed appear to be factors in the crash and it is not immediately known if either occupant was wearing a seat belt.
First responders were called shortly before 1 a.m. to the 1700 block of Brooks Avenue, near the intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Cheyenne Avenue, police said. The Expedition crashed into a parked flatbed truck.
Herrera was booked on one count each of DUI, reckless driving resulting in death and duty to stop at the scene of a deadly crash, police said. All three are felonies.
