31-year-old man struck by car in east Las Vegas Valley has died

A 31-year-old man struck by a car while crossing an east valley street died Tuesday, Las Vegas police say.

The pedestrian, identified as Kurtis Schmidt by the Clark County coroner's office, died at University Medical Center, Metro said Wednesday in a news release.

He was struck just before 9 p.m. Monday in the intersection of Owens Avenue and Marion Drive.

Maria Hernandez, 49, of Las Vegas, was eastbound on Owens in a 2009 Jaguar XF when she struck Schmidt, who was crossing outside of a marked crosswalk, the release said.

This is the 65th traffic-related fatality in Metro's jurisdiction.
