A 55-year-old man is dead after a motorcycle crash on Las Vegas Boulevard Monday, according to Nevada Highway Patrol.

The motorcyclist crashed about 7:10 a.m. 12 miles north of the California state line, Trooper Chelsea Stuenkel said.

The motorcyclist was traveling northbound on Las Vegas Boulevard when he crossed into the southbound lane of the highway, drove onto the dirt shoulder and struck a highway sign.

The Honda XR650L overturned and the man was thrown from the motorcycle. He died at the scene of the crash, NHP wrote in a release Monday afternoon.

The man was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, the release said.

This is the 59th fatal crash and the 12th fatal motorcycle crash in NHP's Southern Command jurisdiction this year, the release said.

The man will be identified by the Clark County coroner's office after his family has been notified.
