Attic fire causes $50,000 damages to vacant house

A blaze early Tuesday in the attic of a vacant east valley house caused about $50,000 in losses, according to the Las Vegas Fire Department.

A passerby called firefighters to 1809 Sweeney Ave., near the intersection of Charleston Boulevard and Bruce Street, about 4 a.m., fire department spokesman Tim Szymanski said.

It took crews 10 minutes to extinguish the flames, Szymanski said.

No injuries were reported and the home was unoccupied with no utilities connected.
