Cooling stations open through Wednesday

In anticipation of extreme weather and high temperatures of 115 to 117 degrees over the weekend, cooling stations have been opened through Wednesday throughout the Las Vegas valley.

To find the nearest cooling station, people seeking shade can dial 211 from any phone, or visit www.helphopehome.org.

The daily summer locations are:

— Catholic Charities at 1511 Las Vegas Blvd. N. This location is for men only, and is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

— The Salvation Army at 31 W. Owens Ave. in North Las Vegas. This location is for adults only, and is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

— The Shade Tree at 1 W. Owens Ave. in North Las Vegas. This location is for women and children only, and is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Additional locations around Las Vegas for the weekend:

— Black Mountain Recreation Center at 599 Greenway Road in Henderson. The center will be open 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

— Cambridge Recreation Center at 3930 Cambridge St. The center will be open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

— Dula Gymnasium at 441 E. Bonanza Road. The gym will be open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

— Hollywood Recreation Center at 1650 S. Hollywood Blvd. The center will be open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday.

— Islamic Society of Nevada at 4730 E. Desert Inn Road. The building will be open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Sunday.

— Pearson Community Center at 1625 W. Carey Ave. The center will be open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Friday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

— Reconciliation Apostolic Ministries at 1401 N. Decatur Blvd. The center will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday.

— Stupak Community Center at 251 W. Boston Ave. The center will be open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

— Valley View Recreation Center at 500 Harris St. at Basic Road in Henderson. The center will be open 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

— Walnut Recreation Center at 3075 N. Walnut Ave. The center will be open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

The locations of the Laughlin cooling stations:

— Colorado River Food Bank at 240 Laughlin Civic Drive. The food bank will be open from Friday to Monday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

— Richard Springston American Legion building at 1510 Bruce Woodbury Drive. The American Legion will be open from Friday to Monday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
