Coroner identifies man shot and killed Tuesday in central Las Vegas

The man who was shot and died in a car late Tuesday evening in central Las Vegas has been identified.

Las Vegas police found Javerian Dontae Stevenson, 22, in the passenger seat of a car at about 10:15 p.m. on Dune Drive, near Rancho Drive and Washington Avenue.

Additional officers responded to the 700 block of Dike Lane, nearby, after getting reports of shots fired. Police believe these two calls were connected.

A homicide investigation showed that Stevenson was shot on Dike Lane after the car he was riding in stopped so the driver could check on a tire. The driver got back in the car and drove to Dune Street, police said.

The Clark County coroner’s office said Stevenson’s official cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head. The death was ruled a homicide.
