Coroner identifies pedestrian killed on highway Saturday night

The pedestrian who was killed in a Saturday evening crash on U.S. Highway 95 was identified Sunday by the Clark County coroner’s office.

Carolyn L. Gobel, 52, of Las Vegas, was struck by a vehicle about 7:20 p.m. on northbound U.S. 95 and was taken to University Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, according to Nevada Highway Patrol.

The crash closed the northbound lanes of U.S. 95 between Valley View and Decatur boulevards and caused a second wreck as cars swerved to avoid it.

It was unclear why Gobel was walking on the highway, NHP Trooper Chelsea Webster said Saturday.
