Coroner identifies woman killed in Monday apartment fire
The woman who was found dead after a west valley apartment fire Monday morning was identified Friday by the Clark County coroner’s office as Marrie Stewart, 42, of Las Vegas.
Clark County firefighters and Las Vegas police responded to a fire at La Villa Estates, 10175 Spring Mountain Road, near Hualapai Way, just after 6:30 a.m., according to police. The fire was out by 7 a.m.
Stewart’s body was found in the master bedroom, where the fire started, Steiber said. Her husband was found at the front door with “superficial” lacerations, police said, and taken to the hospital.
Stewart’s daughter was also in the apartment when the fire started, but was not hurt.
Police said Monday there was a “domestic issue” before the fire started.
Stewart’s son, Rayveon Samuel, had previously identified her as Marie Hall.
“I know for a fact, my mom could’ve been saved by her husband, and that’s all I’m going to say,” Samuel said to a gathering of media outlets the apartment complex. He did not say why he felt that way.
Police had not made any arrests Friday and were waiting for information from the coroner, said Metro spokesman Officer Michael Rodriguez.
The cause and manner of Stewart’s death were pending Friday, the coroner’s office said.
