Coroner IDs teen struck, killed by car in North Las Vegas

The 17-year-old North Las Vegas boy who died after being struck by a car Tuesday afternoon has been identified by the Clark County coroner's office as Daniel Benavides.

The crash happened about 3:30 p.m. near the intersection of Commerce Street and La Madre Way.

Benavides was crossing Commerce Street when he was struck by a Dodge SUV driven by a 25-year-old Las Vegas man, a release from North Las Vegas police said.

Benavides was taken in critical condition to University Medical Center's trauma unit, where he later died.

The driver of the Dodge stayed on the scene.
