Coroner: Woman found burned, partially dismembered died of strangulation

The woman whose body was found May 21 at a south valley home was strangled to death, the Clark County coroner’s office said Friday.

Marissa Shalesa Gonzales, 25, was found dead about 6 p.m. May 21 in an apartment of the Sunwood Village complex, 4020 S. Arville St., near West Flamingo Road and South Decatur Boulevard, Las Vegas police said.

Gonzales died of asphyxia and manual strangulation, the coroner’s office said. Her death was ruled a homicide. Her body had been burned and partially dismembered.

Nathanael Martinez, 21, lived at the apartment where Gonzales was found and had invited the woman over. She was killed after the two had a fight, police said.

Martinez was arrested at the scene and was booked into the Clark County Detention Center where he faces one count of open murder and one count of robbery.
