FOUNDATION ROOM TO HOST HAPPY HOUR EVENTS FOR CHARITY

The Foundation Room, a private venue at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay, 3950 Las Vegas Blvd. South, plans to host happy hour events throughout November and December to benefit nonprofit organizations.

THE VENETIAN, PALAZZO GEAR UP FOR CULINARY CLASH

The Venetian, 3355 Las Vegas Blvd. South, and Palazzo, 3339 Las Vegas Blvd. South, plan to host Culinary Clash, a new four-week competition for the resort's famed team of chefs.

The late-evening competition will be hosted by Claudine Grant and Robin Leach from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday and Dec. 14 and 21 and is open to all sous chefs and chefs de cuisine at the properties' 30-plus restaurants. Chefs will be challenged to create recipes using ingredients in a "mystery basket" to be prepared in mobile "food truck" kitchens on the Strip at The Venetian's Doge's Palace plaza. The clash will be broadcast on a giant screen on The Venetian Clock Tower, and each chef's creation will be available for sampling.

Each cooking battle will be highlighted by street entertainment, a disc jockey and an after party provided by TAO. Celebrity chef judges are scheduled to be: Thursday, Mario Batali; Dec. 14, Sammy DeMarco (semifinals); and Dec. 21, surprise chef to be announced (finals).

The competition winner and a guest will receive a trip to Italy.

The Fremont Street Experience, 425 Fremont St., and the Nevada Barbecue Association plan to host the first Downtown Throwdown Barbecue Championships starting at 6 p.m. Friday with a chili cook-off and continuing at noon Saturday with a barbecue cook-off.

CELEBRITY CHEFS PLAN HURRICANE SANDY BENEFIT AT NEW YORK-NEW YORK

Southern Wine & Spirits of Nevada plans to host an event with celebrity chefs with roots in New York City at the Brooklyn Bridge at New York-New York, 3790 Las Vegas Blvd. South, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday to raise funds for victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Celebrities set to participate include Mario Batali, Tom Colicchio, Scott Conant, Todd English, Bobby Flay, Charlie Palmer, Gordon Ramsay and Thomas Keller. Wine, craft beers and specialty cocktails will be provided by Southern Wine & Spirits of Nevada. All of the proceeds will benefit the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.

Food University is planned for Dec. 11-13 at Caesars Palace, 3570 Las Vegas Blvd. South. The event is designed to transform foodies from spectators into competition-ready chefs.

A collaboration among Caesars Palace, hospitality industry leader Larry Ruvo, Food Network co-founder Robin Leach and culinary entertainment producer Richard Gore, Food University will have student volunteers from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas' hospitality school assisting with back-of-the-house preparations. Spago Las Vegas in The Forum Shops at Caesars, 3500 Las Vegas Blvd. South, is turning 20, and to celebrate, chef Wolfgang Puck plans to greet guests, take photos and cook in the kitchen Dec. 11. GORDON RAMSAY STEAK INTRODUCES 'HELL'S KITCHEN' TASTING MENU

Gordon Ramsay Steak at Paris Las Vegas, 3655 Las Vegas Blvd. South, is offering its first "Hell's Kitchen" limited edition tasting menu in honor of new head chef Christina Wilson's win on the reality show's 10th season.

The special five-course, prix fixe menu features familiar dishes from the show: an amuse bouche of Scotch egg, a first course of hamachi crudo topped with Iberico ham gelée, caviar and truffle creme fraiche, a second course of scallop risotto with diver scallops and Parmesan and herb risotto, a third course of filet surrounded by mushroom duxelle and prosciutto wrapped in puff pastry, and a dessert of caramel apple cake topped with salted peanut ice cream.

The menu will change seasonally and is limited to the entire table. The cost is $145 per person with a wine pairing available for an additional $75.

ARIZONA CHARLIE'S DECATUR ANNOUNCES DECEMBER SPECIALS

Arizona Charlie's Decatur, 740 S. Decatur Blvd., is offering a winter stew special in the Sourdough Café for $5.99 with an ace I PLAY card and $6.66 without a card. The special is a sourdough bread bowl filled with beef stew or chili and is available from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. through Feb. 28.

The Grand Lux Cafe at The Venetian and Palazzo recently launched a new menu, which includes new dining options in 11 menu categories, including Minis, Bites and Tapas; Rustic Pizza; Grand Delux Burgers; Pasta and Noodles; Weekend Brunch: and Big Small Plates or Almost Big Plates.

Terra Verde at Green Valley Ranch Resort, 2300 Paseo Verde Parkway, has introduced a new menu with traditional Italian-inspired delights, embracing traditional Italian techniques and imported ingredients.
