The Gold Spike, 217 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is scheduled to host appearances by local celebrities and community leaders including Mayor Carolyn Goodman, Clark County School District Superintendent Pat Skorkowsky and Ronald McDonald along with food, entertainment and raffles from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. March 12 as the headquarters for the 2015 Nevada’s Big Give online donation campaign. Computer stations on site will enable online giving to benefit Nevada nonprofits and public schools. This will be the fourth statewide online giving event for NevadaGIVES, which offers 24 hours of online giving. Every registered Nevada nonprofit is eligible to participate and receive donations from midnight to 11:59 p.m. March 12 by logging onto NVBigGive.org. The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour is scheduled at 7 p.m. March 12 at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road. The tour features short films from the 39th annual Banff Mountain Film Festival, with topics ranging from explorations of remote landscapes and mountain cultures to adrenaline-fueled action sports films. Kent Caldwell’s exhibit “Otherlands” is set to be on display through March 27 at Blackbird Studios, 1551 S. Commerce St., Suite A. “Otherlands” explores memory, nostalgia, curiosity and immersion with sculptural and narrative diorama that reference characters, stories and video games from the artist’s childhood. The Neon Boneyard “Genie” will perform a dramatic reading of the traditional version of the Aladdin folktale in the Boneyard Park, and after story time, participants will make a magic “flying carpet” with paper and markers before learning to “fly” their carpet around the park. The Downtown Las Vegas Events Center, 200 S. Third St., plans to host the Las Vegas Valley Firefighters’ annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Firefighter Fun Challenge March 17. A parade of uniformed firefighters and honor guards is planned for noon starting at the Main Street Stage outside the Golden Gate. The group will be joined by bagpipers and step dancers as it makes its way down the Fremont Street Experience to the events center for the challenge, set from 1 to 5 p.m. Attendees can enjoy beer, cocktails and food for purchase as they cheer on teams of firefighters competing in a tricycle race, a wheel barrel race, an equipment run, a tug of war, hose bowling and a garden hose efficiency contest.
