John Tanalega, 22, has been awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for meritorious service and superlative performance while serving as the first division officer onboard the USS Dewey (DDG-105), a guided missile destroyer home-ported in San Diego.

He also earned his qualification as surface warfare officer.

A 2007 graduate of Advanced Technologies Academy and a 2011 graduate of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., Tanalega is the son of Abel and Joy Tanalega of North Las Vegas.

Carlie Hancock graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

A 2011 graduate of Shadow Ridge High School, Hancock is the daughter of Dawn West and James Hancock, both of Las Vegas.

Stephanie Ruiz has graduated from Army basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

Ruiz is the daughter of Socorro Castaneda of Las Vegas and Salin Ruiz of Riverside, Calif.

Amanda Gibbs was awarded the Patterson Academic Scholarship from Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Ill.

The scholarship recognizes students with exemplary academic achievement.

Gibbs attended Arbor View High School.

Robert Propios has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

A 2006 graduate of Del Sol High School, Propios is the son of Robert Propios of Las Vegas and grandson of Elanor Propios of Waipahu, Hawaii.

Andre Dixson of North Las Vegas earned placement on the dean’s list at Berklee College of Music in Boston for the spring 2012 semester.

Nicole Simon has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

Simon is a 2010 graduate of Del Sol High School.

Davawn Price has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

A 2011 graduate of Sierra Vista High School, Price is the son of Karen Davis of Las Vegas.

Joshua Griego has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

A 2004 graduate of Durango High School, he earned an associate degree from the College of Southern Nevada in 2011.

Griego is the son of Grace Aguayo of Phoenix and grandson of Dolores Duarte of Las Vegas.

Samantha Reed of Las Vegas has been named to the dean’s list at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, for the spring 2012 semester.

Eduardo Regner of Las Vegas has received a professional diploma in contemporary writing and production from the president of Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Elenn Savoy has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

A 2008 graduate of Canyon Springs High School, Savoy is the son of Eric and Marsha Savoy of North Las Vegas.

Conor Jacob has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

Jacob is the son of Keith Jacob of Las Vegas and Larissa Baird of Tacoma, Wash.

Nicholas Flusher has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

A 2009 graduate of Silverado High School, Flusher is the son of Charolotte Mathews of Las Vegas.

Raul Silva has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

A 2010 graduate of Desert Oasis High School, Silva is the son of Maria Silva of Las Vegas.
