Jacob Lane,18, completed Navy basic training Oct. 4 at Great Lakes Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.

Lane is set to attend advanced training for aviation electrician at Naval Air Station Pensacola in Pensacola, Fla.

A 2013 graduate of Liberty High School, Lane is the son of Elizabeth Lane of Las Vegas and Kenneth Lane of Henderson.

Faith Hales, 10, Garyn McQuire, 7, Dillon Ljungquist, 7, Logan Kerrigan, 12, Gavin Kerrigan, 10, Alexis Simbajon, 14, and Thayne Milner, 6, performed songs they composed and arranged themselves at a recital Oct. 9 in the northwest valley home of their teacher, Sandra Childs.

All are piano students of Simply Music, a music education institution.

Original songs included “Wild Horses,” by Faith; “Evening Blues” and “Edge #2,” by Garyn; “Magical Streams,” by Dillon; “Alma Jackson Blues,” by Logan Kerrigan; “Walking,” by Gavin Kerrigan; and “Rain,” by Alexis.

Along with their original compositions, students played a variety of contemporary, classical, blues and accompaniment songs.

These students are set to perform at Opportunity Village’s Magical Forest at 6 p.m. Dec. 3.

Keshawn Richardson has graduated from Air Force basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.

A 2008 graduate of Eldorado High School, Richardson is the son of Delores Witherspoon of Las Vegas.

Eduardo Gamez-Mercado has graduated from Air Force basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.

Gamez-Mercado is the son of Guadalupe Mercado of Las Vegas.

Lakota Nez has graduated from Air Force basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.

Nez is the son of Waylon Nez and Latonja Panteah-Nez, both of North Las Vegas.

Tyler Holdren has graduated from Air Force basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.

A 2012 graduate of Foothill High School, Holdren is the son of Sheila Holdren of Henderson.

In 1954, Monroe almost married Joe DiMaggio in Las Vegas but the wedding was called off last minute. The wedding was to be held at the Hotel El Rancho Vegas which was located on the southwest corner of Sahara Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard. 4. Las Vegas has at least one road dedicated to the star. Marilyn Monroe Avenue is located in east Las Vegas and intersects with Betty Davis Street and Cary Grant Court. 5. There are currently more than 20 Marilyn Monroe impersonators for hire in the Las Vegas Valley.
