Junior Golf First Place: Kirstin Angosta, 11, won first place at the U.S. Kids Golf Las Vegas spring 2016 tour Event No. 7. She shot 4 under par. She is ranked No. 1 in her age group (10-11 years old) in the U.S. Kids Golf Las Vegas. She also won the girls’ 5/6 grades individual placement in the Southern Nevada’s Middle Schools Golf Tournament on April 28. Kirstin is also in first honor at St Viator Catholic School. She is the daughter of Alona D. Angosta and Terry Angosta.

Collegiate scholars membership: Chrystal Taylor of Las Vegas has accepted membership in The National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

Heart of Education surprise awards: During the May 7 Heart of Education Awards at The Smith Center, five Clark County School District principals were recipients of The Public Education Foundation’s inaugural Best In Class Award for School Leadership: Debbie Brockett, franchise principal of Las Vegas High School and Keller Middle School; Lisa Burkhead, principal of Foothill High School; John Haynal, franchise principal of Roundy Elementary School, Vegas Verdes Elementary School and Wynn Elementary School; Dr. Dustin Mancl, principal of Rowe Elementary School; and Dr. Reece Oswalt, principal of Frias Elementary School.

Poetry winner: Lila Brissette, 18, is the first winner of the Poetry Promise Award. Clark County’s Poet Laureate Bruce Isaacson created the prize to honor a student poet of exceptional talent. Brissette is to receive $500 from an anonymous donor. Brissette is a graduate of Las Vegas Academy, plays violin, plans to study physics and hopes to “bridge the gateway between art and science.” Brissette is set to give a commemorative featured reading June 4 at The Beat Coffeehouse & Records, 520 Fremont St.

Honor rolls:

— Thomas Yoo of Las Vegas received the Army and Navy Academy’s General William W. Crouch Distinguished Leadership Award for his performance during the fall 2015 semester.

— The following students made the fall 2015-16 dean’s list at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, N.Y.: Keena Tolentino, Kenneth Luzak, James Castle and Megan Washington, all of Las Vegas; and Erin Podhaisky of Henderson.

— Nobah Lee and Nickolas Ziter, both of Las Vegas, made the fall 2015 dean’s list at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y.

— The following students made the fall 2015 dean’s honor list at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y.: Andrew Aquino, Marcos Banchik, Kayla Cinnamon, Cammi De La Cruz, Thomas Manzini, John Parin, Mengfei Su, Sean Truong and Yuan Zhu, all of Las Vegas.

— Brianna Dagdagan of Las Vegas made the fall 2015 dean’s list at Emerson College in Boston.

— Sarah Corcoran of Henderson and Shangguan Wang of Las Vegas made the fall 2015 dean’s list at the University of Iowa in Iowa City.

— The following students made the fall 2015 dean’s list at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y.: Perle Goldblatt, Ekaterina Klochkova, Raphael Schnee and Bryce Taylor, all of Las Vegas.
