Literary Las Vegas: W.M. Calloway

University of Nevada, Las Vegas engineering student W.M. Calloway is interested in more than just science. He's a tae kwon do competitor, and he plays drums and guitar and writes music based on the world of fantasy found in his book series, the Xenton Chronicles. The books follow the adventures of friends on a camping trip who acquire superhero powers. The books started as a comic book venture Calloway took on at 17. Excerpt from "The Xenton Chronicles: The Invasion of the Coalts"

Loud breathing and the clattering of two pairs of shoes running through a metal corridor could be heard. Dim light was piercing from above into the thick darkness giving only a little sight. The walls were covered with steel vines with steam flushing out every two feet, giving mystery to the hallway up ahead. Two boys raced along the corridor trying to find their way through the steam-filled hallway. They sidled behind every corner, making sure it was safe to pass. Their hearts knocked against their chest and sweat beaded down their faces, down their chest, and seeped through their shirts, probably from the heat of the steam.

"Come on," whispered one of the boys with long black hair and golden eyes and wielding a golden staff.

"Will you slow down?" whispered the other with silver eyes and black hair with a silver streak racing through his hair. He carried a pair of blades strapped to his back.
