Thousands of cars pass by each day the fenced-in, now-defunct El Capitan mobile home park on Bonanza near Nellis, and probably no one realized what was behind that temporary fence. Anna and Andy, the hummingbirds that inspired Linda P. Young’s “The Adventures of Anna and Andy Hummingbird,” grew up amid the mulberry trees in the author’s Centennial Hills-area backyard. Small is mighty in one corner of the triathlon scene in Las Vegas. Iron Kids is a monthly fitness program for athletes ages 9-13 offered by the YMCA of Southern Nevada. The youngsters learn the running, cycling and swimming skills necessary to complete a sprint triathlon, a timed race in the three fields.
