CITY’S SENIOR IDOL AUDITIONS UNDER WAY

Registration for auditions has begun for the 10th annual Senior Idol Talent Showcase .

Auditions are scheduled for May 8 and 9 at the Las Vegas Senior Center, 451 E. Bonanza Road.

The showcase is slated for 3 p.m. June 13 at the Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. Brush St. It will feature performers 50 or older and include a variety of competition categories for individuals and groups . Categories include singing, dancing, musical instruments and comedy.

Registration packets must be completed and returned to the Las Vegas Senior Center by 6 p.m. April 26. Organizers will call participants to schedule an audition time.

LOCAL RADIO STATION TO RECORD RESIDENTS’ LIFE STORIES

StoryCorps, a national nonprofit dedicated to recording, sharing and preserving the stories of Americans from all backgrounds , is scheduled to record interviews in Las Vegas through April 27 as part of its cross-country MobileBooth tour.

StoryCorps’ MobileBooth — a trailer outfitted with a recording studio — is scheduled to be at Centennial Plaza, 401 S. Fourth St., from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily for four weeks. Participants can make a reservation by calling StoryCorps’ 24-hour toll-free line at 800-850-4406 or by visiting storycorps.org.

Radio station 91.5-FM plans to air a selection of Las Vegas Valley interviews recorded in the StoryCorps MobileBooth and create special programs revolving around the project. Interview segments may also air nationally on NPR’s Morning Edition.

With participants’ permission, StoryCorps interviews will be archived at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.
