CITY COUNCIL APPROVES MEASURE
ALLOWING COMMUNITY GARDENS

The Las Vegas City Council approved a bill allowing community gardens in select residential, commercial and industrial zones throughout the city.

Vegas Roots Community Garden sparked interest in the measure, which was sponsored by Ward 5 Las Vegas City Councilman Ricki Y. Barlow.

SUMMER DAY SHELTER OPENS FOR MEN

Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada, 1501 Las Vegas Blvd. North, has opened a summer day shelter for men as part of a grant received from the Southern Nevada Regional Planning Coalition and the Committee on Homelessness.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and can accommodate up to 100 men at one time.

$75 MAMMOGRAMS TO BE OFFERED THROUGH MAY at SUnrise Hospital

RECENTLY STRUCK BY TRAGEDY

A Chase Bank account has been opened for a local family involved in an April 28 fatal car crash and in need of financial assistance with medical bills and funeral costs.

Parents David Chavez and Luz Chavarria were taken to the hospital, and Chavarria had an emergency C section, according to a story in the Press-Enterprise of Riverside, Calif. . Their children, Jesus de Anda Martinez, 6, and Sonya de Anda Martinez, 15, were killed in the crash, the story said .
