Driver who struck, critically injured woman in south valley crash was 16

A 49-year-old woman was still in critical condition Friday night after being struck by a car just south of McCarran International Airport that afternoon, Las Vegas police said.

The woman was in a marked crosswalk and heading north across Warm Springs Road just after 3 p.m. when a 16-year-old boy turned from Shadow Crest Drive and slammed the 2015 Chevrolet Cruze he was driving into her, police said. The woman was taken to University Medical Center, where she remained late Friday.

The young driver was not injured in the crash and stayed on scene. Metro said he was not impaired.

Traffic was shut down in all directions in the area for several hours, police said. Metro said Friday the crash is still under investigation.
